2010 Montréal: Volkswagen Golf wins new Canadian annual car award
By John LeBlanc MONTREAL – It’s not only the fine people of Detroit that put on an auto show this time of the year. Just down the St. Lawrence River, a couple of hours on the 401, our neighbors in la belle province put on quite a car show of their own. This year, along with 19 Canadian-market debuts, a new national car award was announced The Canadian Automotive Jury's inaugural Best of the Best award, won by the 2010 Volkswagen Golf. Having narrowed the contenders down to a short list of 12 vehicles (listed below), The Jury honoured the entire 2010 Golf family, recognized as “the one and only, best of the best” of the current crop of automotive offerings. Not much a surprise, eh? As you may already know, I already picked the new Golf as the best new car introduced to Canada for 2010. As my Jury colleagues agreed, the Golf family’s diverse range with three- and five-door hatches, a station wagon, a clean diesel and the famed GTI means there’s a Golf for everyone. The new award is unique for a few reasons. Firstly, The Canadian Automotive Jury is made up of 12 of the most prominent Canadian automotive writers, yours truly included. According to MediaWatch Research & Analysis Canada Inc., our coast-to-coast reach in all forms of media including newspapers, radio, television and online totals 43,253,351 on a weekly basis. Secondly, as a group, we stand for the highest standards of uncompromising automotive journalism in the country, with judgements ferociously independent of the automakers. Jury members pay all costs of the Best of the Best awards out of our own pockets. No financial contribution of any kind toward administration or awards will be sought or even permitted from any automaker whatsoever. So what do you think of our choice? What would have chosen as your "best of the best" for 2010? 2010 Best of the Best Finalists: Audi A4 Chevrolet Equinox Ford Fusion Hyundai Elantra Kia Soul Mazda3 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Mitsubishi Lancer Nissan 370 Z Porsche Panamera Subaru Outback Volkswagen Golf01.15.10 | 2010, 2011, Audi, Auto Shows, Chevrolet, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, New York, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Volkswagen | Comments Off on 2010 Montréal: Volkswagen Golf wins new Canadian annual car award
