Do you feel that the BMW X3 crossover’s roof is too upright? Its cargo bay too roomy? Don’t need seats for five passengers? Well, then, the German automaker has just the vehicle for you: the new 2015 BMW X4, making its world production debut here in NYC after it premiered as a concept this time last year at the Shanghai auto show.
Aping the larger BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicle / X6 Sports Activity Coupe formula, the new X4 SAC is based on the compact, five-passenger X3 SAV — but only seats four. Built in the same U.S. plant as the X3, the X4 offers identical powertrain options, as in the X4 xDrive28i (240 horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-litre gas four) and the X4 xDrive35i (300 hp 3.0L six), both with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive as standard fare.
