2014 Geneva Motor Show: Volvo Concept Estate

Story and photos by John LeBlanc GENEVA - As the Swedish automaker reinvents itself under new stewardship from China’s Geely, the new Volvo Concept Estate that debuted here in Geneva is the third in a series of show cars following last fall’s Concept Coupe two-door and this January’s Concept XC Coupe crossover. Collectively, the trio of show cars illustrates the future look for Volvos. And the latest Volvo Concept Estate is a nod for those who think “wagon” whenever you mention the Swedish brand. Volvo’s head of design, Thomas Ingenlath, readily admits the Volvo P1800 ES “shooting brake” from the early-1970s was the inspiration for the Concept Estate. While the sporty wagon’s front end is similar to 2013’s Coupe Concept, out back is where you can see the P1800 ES’s influence with the concept wagon’s glass hatchback design.
